Famous T-Shirts – James Byron Dean – Update

A reader of The T-Shirt Site pointed out a few in accuracies in our previous post titled Famous T-Shirts – James Byron Dean, thus we’d like to clear up a few errors about that last fatal drive of the man who popularized the t-shirt, James Dean.

This photo shows famous-actor James in his favorite choice of casual wear, the t-shirt, as he prepares his Porche 550 Spyder during his fateful last ride. He was heading to Salinas, Calif. to participate in a race. The day is September 30, 1955. He would not survive the road trip. This is the last photo taken of James Dean alive.

However, this photo was not taken at Blackwell’s Corner as we previously reported. This photo was taken at a gas station at the corner of Beverly Glen and Ventura Blvd., in Sherman Oaks. Details can be found here.

The old gas station still stands today, but it is now a flower shop. Read an article about that flower shop here and here. I wonder if that shop sells James Dean t-shirts or even plain white v-neck t-shirts. That would make sense to us.
